NTRCA Clay Shoot: IT Support for Roofing Contractors
By Madison Davis, Social Media Coordinator

On October 3, 2025, Aligned Technology Partners (formerly On-Site PC Services) sponsored the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association Clay Shoot. The Clay Shoot is one of the association's signature events, and it fills a field with roofing and construction professionals from across the region for a morning of shooting and a lot of conversation between stations.
We were not there to hand out pens. Roofing and the skilled trades are a core part of who we serve, and a day spent with fifty contractors teaches you more about how their businesses actually run than a year of marketing research.
ATP is a managed IT, cybersecurity, and business continuity firm at 1415 Cannon Pkwy in Roanoke, Texas, serving the DFW metroplex since 2001. We support 135+ clients, and a meaningful share of them run crews in the field every day.
Why IT support for roofing contractors looks different
Most managed IT is designed for an office. People sit at desks, connect to the same network, and open the same handful of applications. Roofing does not work that way, and a provider who has only supported offices will get it wrong in predictable ways.
Four things make trades support its own discipline.
The business happens on a roof, not at a desk. Estimators, crew leads, and project managers work from phones and tablets in the field. If the photo upload fails or the app times out on a weak signal, that is a production problem, not an IT inconvenience.
Your busiest week is your most fragile week. A hail line moves through Denton or Tarrant County and the schedule triples in 48 hours. That is exactly when the dispatch board, the estimating tool, and the phone system have to hold. It is also when nobody has time to troubleshoot.
Cash flow runs through software. Estimate to work order to material order to invoice. A system failure in the middle of that chain does not just annoy people. It delays money.
Nobody thinks they are a target. This is the most common thing we hear from contractors, and it is the reason attackers have had such success with invoice fraud in construction. Criminals do not care what you build. They care that you move large payments between parties who mostly communicate by email.
What we heard between stations
A few themes came up repeatedly that day, and they match what we see across our skilled trades clients.
Owners are frustrated by tool sprawl. Separate systems for estimating, dispatch, time tracking, safety documentation, and accounting, none of which talk to each other, and an office manager retyping the same job number into four of them.
Field connectivity is still a daily annoyance. Crews on a job site with weak coverage, apps that do not work offline, and photos that sit in a queue until someone drives back into signal.
And several owners had a story about a payment that almost went to the wrong account. That one always gets attention, because the amounts in commercial roofing are large enough that a single successful attempt is a very bad quarter.
The morning after the storm
Picture a commercial roofing contractor in Justin with 40 employees and 9 crews. A hail event runs through on a Tuesday night. By Wednesday morning the phones are constant, the schedule is being rebuilt on the fly, and three estimators are trying to get to properties before the competition does.
Wednesday at 8:15 AM, the server running their estimating database stops responding.
Without preparation, the next two days are lost revenue that never comes back, because in storm work the jobs go to whoever gets there first. With preventive maintenance catching the failing drive two weeks earlier, or with continuity tooling that brings the system back as a running virtual machine the same morning, that Wednesday is merely busy.
That is the entire value of proactive support and continuity planning for a contractor. Not that nothing ever breaks. That it does not break during the week that makes your year.
Where this sits in Protect and Optimize
Sponsoring a clay shoot is not a technology strategy. Showing up in the community we serve is how we learn what to build, and it belongs in the same category as everything else we do: understanding the business first, then the technology.
The work itself is Protect and Optimize. Protect, because a contractor's exposure runs through payment fraud, lost job data, and downtime during storm season. Optimize, because most of what slows a crew down is friction in tools the company already pays for. Our managed IT services are built around removing that friction and keeping systems healthy before anyone has to call about them.
We are glad to support organizations like NTRCA that invest in training, safety, and professionalism across North Texas. The trades built this region. Keeping their systems running is a reasonable way to return the favor.
Let's talk before the next storm
If you run crews in North Texas, the right time to review your systems is now, not during the week your schedule triples.
We will look at what your field team actually uses, where your job data lives, how fast you could recover if the main system failed, and whether your payment process can be spoofed. You will get a short, prioritized list. No jargon.
